Primal RC Drag Racing Event Rules 2026
The racing competition will be contested on a 132 foot track, with a .400 pro tree and will operate within the specifications provided.
General Rules
Safety
- At least one dry chemical fire extinguisher must be located within the pit area.
- Transmitter must be a hobby grade ground system. A fail safe feature is required.
- A remote engine kill switch is mandatory. Must be properly set up to kill the engine from the transmitter.
- Brakes: All cars must have an effective braking system.
- All gas powered cars must use a centrifugal clutch.
- Radio receiver and battery must be securely mounted.
- Fuel system must be secure and away from heat and moving parts.
- Absolutely NO propylene oxide additive in fuel.
- A throttle return spring must be attached to the carburetor.
- Minimum weight limit of 20 pounds for all cars without fuel.
Engine
- Will be limited to one engine per vehicle, piston 2 stroke style, ignition type engine.
- Modifications to the engine components are allowed if it does not exceed the engine displacement limit for the class.
- No glow engines allowed.
- Exhaust: Mufflers or tuned pipes accepted. Must direct exhaust away from the track surface and configured to fit within the width and length of the vehicle.
- Carburetor modifications accepted. Velocity stacks and air filters accepted.
- Pump gas or race fuel is allowed.
- No alcohol, nitro, N.O.S. or propylene oxide allowed.
Electric Cars
- Limited to one electric motor per vehicle.
- Any size battery(s) is allowed, unless cell count is limited by the class.
- Lipo batteries maximum 4.22v per cell.
- 110 Fahrenheit max battery temperature at race start.
- Batteries must be securely attached to the vehicle.
- The ESC must be properly calibrated and failsafe setup correctly to shut the motor off in the case of a radio failure.
Body
- All vehicles must resemble their full size model.
- Length is a minimum of 48 inches, and a maximum of 62 inches for dragsters only.
- All vehicles must have a securely attached body.
- Baja classes do not require a body.
Tires
- Rear tires: Any compound accepted. Maximum width 5”, minimum height 6”, maximum height 10”
- Stock classes must use the tires included with the RTR vehicle.
- Foam Tires can be treated with track bite ONLY!!! Anyone caught violating this rule will be disqualified.
Staging
- Burnouts are allowed in the burnout box only, no burnouts allowed at the starting line.
- Racers will have 1 minute to burnout and stage. A track official will signal to start burnouts.
- Once your car is staged and you remove your hand from the car, you are considered staged. You must be ready at any time to race.
- Do not touch your car at any point once staged.
- If after you stage your car, it rolls back out of the stage beam, unless instructed by a race official, only the track official can stop a race and signal to restage.
- Track officials have the right to disqualify a racer if they determine a driver is trying to burn down another car or is playing staging games at the line. That decision will be final!
- If in the event a car stalls before they are staged the track official will start a 30 second clock that driver will have 30 seconds to start and stage their car, afterwards the lights on the Timing system will drop and the ready car(s) will be required to make a clean pass down the track.
Race Repairs
- ABSOLUTELY NO TUNING OR REPAIRS OF ANY KIND AT THE LINE OR DURING A BURNOUT!
- If a Car stalls during a burnout, a track official will start a 30 second Timer to start the race. You must be ready and staged before the 30 seconds times out.
Lowest ET Award
The lowest ET award will go to the fastest ET run completed during qualifying OR racing. Practice runs do not count for this award.
Race Classes
Primal RC Stock Gas Dragster
- The race vehicle must be a Primal RC brand 1/5th scale Gas powered Dragster.
- The stock rubber tires must be used.
- Stock 32cc Zenoah G320RC Engine ONLY and must include a pull start.
- The stock pipe must be used #PRQS2100.
- The only accepted modifications are:
- Radio system
- Electronics (servos, receiver battery)
- Gearing
- The vehicle MUST have a remote engine kill switch installed and working properly.
Primal RC Stock Gas Dodge Challenger
- The race vehicle must be a Primal RC brand 1/5th scale Gas powered Dodge Challenger.
- The vehicle must use the original Dodge Challenger body.
- The stock rubber tires must be used.
- Allowed Engines: 32cc Zenoah G320RC, Bartolone Modified 32cc Zenoah G320RC, or Taylor RC 35cc.
- Must use the stock exhaust pipe #PRCR0084.
- The only accepted modifications are:
- Radio system
- Electronics (servos, receiver battery)
- Gearing
- Shock springs and oil
- The vehicle MUST have a remote engine kill switch installed and working properly.
Primal RC Stock Electric Dodge Challenger
- The race vehicle must be a Primal RC brand 1/5th scale Electric Dodge Challenger.
- The vehicle must use the original Dodge Challenger body.
- The stock rubber tires must be used.
- Must use a 56mm diameter electric motor.
- The only brand motors and ESC allowed are: Primal RC, Castle Creations, and Hobbywing
- Up to 8s Lipo Battery, any capacity (mah) allowed.
- Max 4.22 volts per cell.
- The only accepted modifications are:
- Radio system
- Servos
- Gearing
- Shock springs and oil
- The vehicle MUST have a failsafe setup on the radio to shut the motor off in the event of a radio failure.
Sportsman Baja
- Must use a 2WD Baja 5B style chassis with stock wheelbase.
- Baja complete drivetrain.
- Engine Displacement 23cc to 35cc Max.
- No nitrous.
- Rubber of Foam tires allowed. Any compound accepted. Maximum width 5”, minimum height 6”, maximum height 10”.
- Vehicle must look like a Baja, but a body shell is not required.
- The vehicle MUST have a remote engine kill switch installed and working properly.
Sportsman Dragster
- Must use a 2WD Dragster style chassis, maximum 62 inches.
- Engine Displacement 23cc to 35cc Max.
- No nitrous.
- Rubber of Foam tires allowed. Any compound accepted. Maximum width 5”, minimum height 6”, maximum height 10”.
- Vehicle must look like a Dragster, a body is required.
- The vehicle MUST have a remote engine kill switch installed and working properly.
All Motor Extreme Dragster
- Must use a 2WD Dragster style chassis, maximum 62 inches.
- No Limit to Engine Displacement.
- Twin or single cylinder allowed up to 110cc total.
- No nitrous.
- Rubber of Foam tires allowed. Any compound accepted. Maximum width 5”, minimum height 6”, maximum height 10”.
- Vehicle must look like a Dragster, a body is required.
- The vehicle MUST have a remote engine kill switch installed and working properly.
Extreme Electric
- Any Electric 1/5th scale chassis allowed.
- Any size electric motor allowed.
- Any size battery(s) allowed, max 4.22 volts per cell.
- Rubber of Foam tires allowed. Any compound accepted. Maximum width 5”, minimum height 6”, maximum height 10”.
- Vehicle must have a body shell.
- The vehicle MUST have a failsafe setup on the radio to shut the motor off in the event of a radio failure.
